Handling mental health-related issues?

Writer's picture: Minds MatterMinds Matter

▶ Gaining knowledge on mental health, challenges, common mental disorder, developmental issues, and acculturative stressors.

▶ Breaking stereotypes on mental health and gaining insights on psychiatric care and psychological counselling, and how to promote mental health awareness.

▶ Mental health workshops take part in workshops and specialized courses designed to help you work on your mental health.

▶ Being an international student, having a sympathetic mentor with who you can talk can really help. Not only are they someone to talk to, but they can also help you find the help you need.

▶ Build your local support network with other international students sharing similar experiences. Use social networking sites/apps to find international student groups or people in your city who share similar hobbies.

▶ Exercise regularly, eat healthily and look after yourself. Poor eating habits and sleep deprivation is known to trigger stress. Eat nutritious meals and try cooking your meals at home instead of eating out.

▶ Exercise daily to improve both physical and mental health. Meditation, yoga, and deep breathing exercises can also help you stay calm and composed.

▶ Get to know your new city Make an effort to get to know your new surroundings and what’s happening in your host city. Get yourself to feel more connected and less like an outsider. Research a little about where you’re living and find a few places you should explore.

▶ Vent and express your feelings If you are too shy to express your feeling with anyone, start keeping a journal and vent it all out. You may write poems, and stories or even indulge in creative art forms like a painting to express yourself.
