Cultural shock and homesickness is the most common cause of depression and anxiety among international students. International Students can be affected by mental health, whether or not they have underlying problems.

We identified that depressive disorder is the most prevalent disorder related to mental health. Students feel mood dysregulation, sadness, lack of interest, motivation, and change in appetite. Students also go through insomnia, lack of concentration or energy as well as the presence of agitation.

Anxiety can be characterized by excessive worrying and sometimes physical symptoms. This can have an impact on an international student's ability to dive into new challenges and adapt to a new culture.

Social withdrawal confining oneself with limited communication may be a sign of mental health problems such as social withdrawal syndrome, depression, and anxiety disorders.
