Moving aboard takes courage. It requires taking a leap of faith to jump in into the unknown. The reality of studying abroad and working outside the comfort zone, without family and friends and perceiving the way of living with a whole new perspective adds extra pressure.
Although university life is a rewarding and amazing experience for life, it is not uncommon for students to go through depression and loneliness which can take a toll on their mental well-being. Studies done with more than 43,000 Canadian university students have shown that 66 per cent of the students reported feeling “very lonely”. Furthermore, a shocking 44 per cent said they felt “so depressed that it was difficult to function” in the past year.
The feeling of need to get adapted to the new environment, routines, culture and piles of courses can cause an underlying mental issue. With Minds Matter, we aim to change attitudes toward mental health and break the stereotype.
